Set two miles south west of Dunstable on the Whipsnade Road (A4541), high on the crest of the Chiltern Hills nearly 800 feet above sea level, Dunstable Downs is famous as a beauty spot and viewpoint with a panorama taking in seven counties. The bracing air and the glorious downland turf, set in ‘An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, makes it an ideal spot for golf. The present layout, designed by five times Open Champion, James Braid, provides a real challenge for golfers of all abilities. There are 18 holes over 6,273 yards par 70, SSS 71. Thanks to the chalky subsoil, the course is playable for most of the year and is always dry with fast, true contoured greens.
