Following on from one of the most memorable years in the long history of our club with the hosting of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open and Home Internationals in 2019, we look forward to the year ahead and look forward to hosting our own South of Ireland Championship at the end of July. “The South” has always been a highlight of the year for Lahinch Golf Club with many of the greats lifting the trophy such as Paul McGinley, Graeme McDowell, Darren Clarke and although Padraig Harrington was a beaten finalist in 1994, he did taste victory at Lahinch in the 1995 Irish Amateur Close Championship. It is with great disappointment that the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup which was due to be hosted at Lahinch Golf Club has had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation, but we look forward to hosting the tournament in 2024. We also look forward to issuing a hearty welcome to our overseas members for our biennial Member/Guest Event in August, to renew acquaintances and rekindle friendships. Since 1892 the Golf Club and Lahinch village have been in a symbiotic relationship, never more in evidence than during our staging of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open last year, when the Club, the village and indeed the entire county rose magnificently to the challenge of hosting such a major sporting event. The village and surrounding countryside put on their brightest colours, opened their hearts to the throngs of golfing fans and sending players, visitors and media away with memories of friendship, hospitality and craic to warm hearts for years to come. The week was capped off by crowning a great Champion in World No.3 Jon Rahm who went on to win the 2019 Race to Dubai title. Rahm enthused “I have played some of the best courses in the world and Lahinch is one of the best”. The Old Course continues to offer members and guest an excellent and memorable golfing experience with its unique design and breath-taking scenery. We continue to make improvements to the Castle Course under the expert guidance of our course architect, Dr. Martin Hawtree, examining ways in which the quality of our fine sister course can be further enhanced. We are justifiably proud of our state-of-the-art Performance Centre which was constructed in 2019 and complements our Short Game Academy which gives members and guests the best facilities to warm up and work on their games. We extend a warm welcome to all our members and visitors and we hope to get the opportunity to meet you during your visit to Lahinch in 2020.
